Just listened to Row Jimmy from 1973-12-18. Just amazing.

Great listening for a Friday... check it out.

I don't have much from 1973 - what concert should be next on my list? I've only heard 12-18 and 12-19 so far.

I would add a few more to the list…

http://www.archive.org/details/gd1973-03-26.sbd.miller.34787.sbeok.flac16

The Baltimore show from spring tour is overshadowed by surrounding shows, but is pretty spectacular in its own right. One of the best PITB’s of the year and a totally unique second set sequence of: He's Gone> Truckin'> Weather Report Suite Prelude> Wharf Rat> Bobby McGee

http://www.archive.org/details/gd1973-06-09.sbd.patched.barry.93475.sbeok.shnf

There are better ’73 shows, but this one is worth it for the Truckin> PITB alone.

http://www.archive.org/details/gd1973-07-27.mtx.seamons.100410.sbeok.flac16

Umm… Watkins Glen, anyone? Famous for the “soundcheck jam” preceding Wharf Rat.

http://www.archive.org/details/gd1973-10-25.sbd.unknown.9213.sbeok.shnf

Dark Star includes MLB jam to die for.

And for God's sake man... Do yourself a favor and find a copy of 11/11/73 at Winterland!

Is there even a bad show in the entire year? I think not

Pick anyone and enjoy the "honey year"

DP 28 is a favorite of mine. Love that early 73 sound.

Agreed on the DP #28 Row Jimmy. The second set RJ from the Salt palace on 2/28/73 is a stunning rendition!

yea I actually played that row jim after a many year hiatus tonight filming the football game. It was nice to hear the original row jim (at least to my ears) again. Then the following truckin > TOO > eyes is mind blowing. Never realized how good that truckin is, usually focus on the other one. Something tells me that other one is right up your alley.

Lots of Gems with this show and recording

http://www.archive.org/details/gd1973-03-28.sbd.miller.86459.sbeok.flac16

WRS is sweet prior to the splendid DARK STAR

http://www.archive.org/details/gd1973-11-14.sbd.miller.79049.flac16

overshadowed by the 11th and the 17th shows, love how they weave themselves in and out of the Other One.

Don't forget 8/1/73 from Roosevelt Stadium. The D.S>El Paso>Eyes>Morning Dew is must listening and while you are at it try 6/10/73 as well.

Consider yourself very lucky. You have so much beautiful music ahead of you.

Caboose has some good recommendations as does Pig(especially 11-14). Here's a few more that are essential '73:

Thanks so much for all the suggestions - can't wait to work my way through these. Can't imagine a better Row Jimmy though. :)

I've been pretty much obsessed with the Dead for almost 2 months now... if you guys keep turning me on to new shows I'll never get back to normal music!

That's a wonderful show, but a Best Ever Row Jimmy would HAVE to include Donna! She gets ragged on a lot (by me, too), but she could be wonderful, and there are a few songs in my book that are only perfect with Donna. Row Jimmy is one; so is TMNS. But 12/18 really is a gorgeous show, and it's got to be one of the most beautiful WRSs ever.

I just posted on 10/29/73, which somehow hasn't been mentioned yet among all the other wonderful '73s ...

http://www.archive.org/details/gd1973-10-29.sbd.miller.32352.sbeok.flac16

... and LiA called attention to a new AUD:

>10/29/73 also struck me as one of Keith's shining moments. Check out just the first two seconds of Truckin'....how many times did he start it like that? Then he really takes over the Other One in spots - part of the post-Truckin' jam is basically a Phil/Keith duet!

And for those who like AUDs, a wonderful-sounding AUD of this show just got put up!

They hardly put a foot wrong for the whole of November 73 - you could spend a happy few days exploring that month.

12=6-73 is also a big favourite of mine - it has a China/Rider transition that's up there with the best you'll hear, a very spacey and wonderful Dark Star - and a pretty damn nice Row Jimmy too!

and the indie kids weigh in (not sure if pete buck was in on this session):

On last album, "The King Is Dead features special guest appearances by Americana luminary Gillian Welch on seven tracks and legendary R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck on three tracks. "

When you start mentioning Gillian Welch and Peter Buck you're ringing my bells, young man. Have you checked this show they both did with Robyn Hitchcock?

http://www.archive.org/details/rhitchcock2007-03-18

David Rawlings and JP Jones in attendance too!

Robyn just played here on Monday night. I'm trying to convince the folkYEAH! folks, who are announcing an upcoming fest with the Communion UK folks, to do the anniversary of McDougal Blues' shows with Peter and Kevn Kinney - here's a lineup for you:

http://www.archive.org/details/KevnKinneyTheMusicalKings

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuGcAEj-ZaI&;feature=related

Back when McDougal came out, Peter, Kevn and Robyn did a bunch of shows together, and that damn commie folkie Billy Bragg made a few appearances. It's all part of the mix.

Ryan Adams next Thursday... w/ Jason Isbell.

Bookmarked that one for a listen later, thank for the link.

I'm looking forward to getting Ryan's new album next week. I've been spending some time listening to him this afternoon (this one particularly since you ask - http://www.archive.org/details/radams2007-06-29.sbd.flac). That man can nail a song better than anyone on the planet when he's on top form - there's stuff there that absolutely makes your spine tingle.

Have that show on my little greedy, selfish Steve Jobs' product. It's amazing. Neal Casal is now playing with Chris Robinson and does shows with Kevn. Hope Ryan's hearing issues are not that bad and the Cardinals (or other configuration) heads back out at some point. Of course, the Whiskeytown reunion (or at least him and Caityln) is what many want...

WHAT??!! Well sir you're in for a treat, 1973 was their best year, after 1974, of course. I'd definitely start with the fall, then move on to early spring.

Besides the others that were recommended:

12/2/73 - AUD, also Dick's Picks 14

http://www.archive.org/details/gd73-12-02.aud.vernon.17278.sbeok.shnf

11/20 and 11/21/73:

http://www.archive.org/details/gd1973-11-21.sbd.fix.miller.97468.sbeok.flac16

11/17/73 - possibly the best show of the year

http://www.archive.org/details/gd1973-11-17.sbd.ashley.fixed.23731.sbeok.shnf

11/11/73 - not on the archive

10/30/73
